The farm covers about 6 hectares and is situated on a hillock between Pozzolatico and Monteoriolo, close to Impruneta. It offers a breathtaking view of Florence and the surrounding hills.
The area of Pozzolatico (its name derives from the Latin “podium oleaticum” – the hill of olive trees) has been well known since ancient times for the production of high quality extra-virgin olive oil, and has been inhabited by many famous people from Italian history.
The great-grandfather of Galileo Galilei, John (1443-1510), before moving to Pisa, was the owner of a house in Via Vecchia per Pozzolatico, while Podere Capiteto in Via Imprunetana per Pozzolatico belonged to Michelangelo Buonarroti (from “Paths of History, Vie del Galluzzo and Pozzolatico “- A. Martinuzzi and G. Salvatori)..
In the fourth century, the property was owned by the Hospital of St John the Baptist, it was bequeathed by Lady Elizabeth of Mark and was given the original name of “Ai Gialli”. Reference to it appeared for the first time in 1480, it was handed down until the first decades of the last century. In the second half of the 20th century the property was split up, it is currently the home of the farm “Poggio de’ Galli”.
